THE STATION DE L’AVENIR

The Station de l’Avenir is a mobile, solar-powered digital creation station. During the day, the Station de l’Avenir transforms itself into a workshop, collecting animations and drawings from the public. When night falls, the creations are projected and come to life, illuminating the buildings in the neighborhood. The station, designed by MAPP_MTL in collaboration with Studio Gentilhomme and Robocut Studio, is funded by the Framework on Montreal’s cultural development and the framework Réflexe Montréal between the city of Montréal and the Quebec government.

For the Montreal 2140 Symposium we decided to ask Marc-Olivier Lamothe a talented local artist to animate the station.
Originally from Sherbrooke, QC, Marc-Olivier Lamothe is a visual artist, at the intersection of graphics and the fine arts, combining digital illustration and painting. His first solo show was “Playful Chaos” (2018), and he has participated in several group exhibitions as well as live paintings. His art navigates the tangible and digital worlds by exploring different media such as handmade paper, clothing, murals and digital projections.
